'Bramley' apples for apple tarts or do you use another type?

Best cooking apples in the world for apples pies. However, they are becoming increasingly scarce to get hold of. So if you manage to get hold of some why not freeze a few for the next apple pie.

Love apple pies made with Bramely apples...makes me proud to be British...LOL

You can use any type you like, but the only one to remain like any kind of REAL apple is the good old Bramley!

(Typical Yahoo - it thinks Bramley is a mis-spell!)

rarely use apples now,i bake my pies using tinned pears+sultanas,with about 1 teaspoon of fresh grated ginger root.i even cheat with the pastry using "netto's" just add water short crust pastry with "nettos" just sprinkle on (no prep necessary)crumble topping.

the final cheat i use in my pies ~pour a tin of instant custard on top of the fruit before sprinkling topping on .

Well, I suppose "Bramley's" are the best, there are others but most supermarkets only supply Bramley's, in catering, they are the industry standard!

Mmmm!  I totally do not know the specific apple my mom's mom used

for some truly dazzling dish but, ohhhh, 'twas stunning how good!

Never mind the apple tart, how about baked apples?

Can't get them where I live. In fact here in Switzerland there is nothing close to a 'cooking' apple.

Bramleys.  Eaters tend to go mushy when cooked.
