'Clipper Darrell' is back in the limelight – NBA Update
Los Angeles Clippers diehard fan Darrell Bailey was devastated at the beginning of the month after the franchise asked him to refrain from calling himself as “Clipper Darrell” after he was accused banking off the team’s brand.
The said decision was taken after he has publically used the team name for his own commercial gains and it is said that the franchise has warned him from making appearances that suggested him to be a franchise employ but he turned down all their requests
to operate in consultation with the management.
The franchise claimed that they have accommodated him accordingly by providing him with a complimentary seat in every match.
This news erupted into a media storm which led Blake Griffin and Chris Paul to tweet in the favour of 11 year season’s ticket holder compelling the management to sign an agreement which placed Darrell back on his designated section 107 seat.
The said agreement was more of a clarification that will bind Darrell to intimate Clippers before making any appearance or endorsements as "Clipper Darrell"
"We have a mutual understanding of what my role is now," Bailey said. "Nothing has changed. I'm still doing what I've been doing, but I'm letting the Clippers know when I make certain appearances. All these appearances though are through season-ticket holders
that asked me to come to their kids' games. People wanted to make it seem like I was making appearances in front of Ralph's [grocery stores] or something. It's not like that."
“Clipper Darrell’ has never missed any Los Angeles home game since 2000-01 season and is always in the lime light at Staples Center wearing his custom made blue and red suit, his devotion to the team is even stretched out of the arena as he drives a Clippers
team coloured car, whose interior and exterior are painted red, white and blue.
Moreover his house is painted in the same pattern, he cheered for the team in consecutive 386 games but the streak was broken after an emergency trip to hospital due to blood pressure. A person who has such values and devotions associated with the team was
left poignant after the franchise’s recent promulgation.
However now when the things have finally settled down between him and the club, he was there on his usual spot on March 11 in the match against Golden State Warriors but perhaps his chanting was not enough to save his team from a 97-93 defeat. We can hope
his presence in arena will pace Los Angeles. Clippers in the upcoming endeavours as they do have an impressive 15-8 record at home in this season and with 26 victories and 18 loses they are eyeing the playoffs by securing 4th position in Western
conference.
