  1. Detrimental to....the for is just too much. When you say to:, you do mean for:

    Strive towards a goal...strive for a goal. Either works.

    Chatting with. Chatting to sounds like you are not having a 2-way conversation. Same as if someone was "talking AT" you.


  2. Should be 'detrimental to.'

    You use 'chatting with' if you are referring to a conversation you and the other person BOTH participated in.  If you're just referring to your end of the conversation you use 'chatting to.'  

    And it is usually 'strive towards' but can sometimes be 'strive for'
