"Costs one white mana

-- Sorcery--

'prevent all damage that would be dealt this turn to creatures you control'"

Why would i need to prevent damage to creatures on my turn?

So this can't be used on my opponents turn?

Is this useful at all?

Thanks

  1. the card is not really a card you will have in a main deck, more of a sideboard card that does not really have any playable value, there are alot of useless cards in MTG some people may argue and are able to find ways to use such cards but mostly is a one in a million chance that you would need such effect, probably someone thought it was a good idea when they read another card and made it specifically for that purpose, its just filler to reach the quota i would suppose.

hoever it may be used to cause casualties among ur oponents creatures if they block, leaving your creatures unharmed, or maybe any instant that people may play like those white things that deal damage to attacking creatures, it has its usses and it may be alright in certain decks but thats about it. maybe for a RW deck that uses pyroclasms or other such spells like ashling the pilgrim, or bloodfire colosus , so its not a useless card it's just a verry specific effect.

  2. There are times that this card can come in useful, such as if you are playing Pyroclasm or Firespout, and don't want to lose your creatures in the mix.

But in every other case, this card really isn't that good, hence why it is simply another five-cent common.

    Hope that helped!

  3. If you know what they're running, say for example, burn, or if there's a kind of continuous effect on their table, dealing damage to your creatures, you may want to keep the, from dying.

In all honesty, i think it could be useful in certain matchups, but even then it's still rather situational, so I'm going to go ahead and say no.

  4. I'll give an example of a situation in which this card would be useful.

Say you're playing a red/white deck. Generally you'll probably have a decent amount of small creatures out with this combination. In your hand you have a Pyroclasm (deals 2 damage to ALL creatures in play)

If you play the Divine Light, you can then play the Pyroclasm without killing your own creatures.

Also, it includes combat damage in the prevention, so you can play Divine Light just before you attack with your creatures. That way, even if they're blocked they will survive to block and attack the next turn.

The damage prevention effect lasts until the end of your turn, so if you have a creature that has an ability you want to use on your opponents turn, and they are playing a burn deck with the ability to kill it on your turn you can Use Divine Light to keep it alive until you can use it's ability.

There's really no such thing as a completely useless card in Magic, you just might not see HOW it's useful right away. A lot of times a card is released and immediately discarded as being useless until some inventive soul finds a combination that makes it nasty, putting said card in high demand. Hope that helped a little. Have fun.
