You hear about people going over to France to pick up lots of cheap alcohol and cigarettes - how does it work?

How do you get there?

How much does it cost?

How cheap are things?

How much can you bring back?

Do people generally bring back more than what they are meant to without getting caught?

  1. F ag, in America means a sissy boy but in the UK

it`s cigarettes. You can bring what you want back,as long as it`s for your own use.Cost ? approx half or less what it

cost you in UK.Depart Dover and Hull by ferry boat.

  2. Don't do this you are depriving the Chancellor of taxes and duty that would go towards paying for the MP's expenses.

  3. i do this once a year with my brother. We take car thorugh channel tunnel, cost us last time £49 return. we go to a supermarket just outside bologne called mercier, next door to a massive tesco's and a mall full of shops. In the french hypermarkets the majority of stuff is a lot cheaper especially local wines and beers, however some britsh cans of beer like greene king and watneys is also very cheap. You are to a point unlimited on how much you can bring back but you must be able to prove that it is for your own consumption and not for reale, there are still limits which you can get from customs website.

We have only been stopped once when we bought a load back but as there was 2 of us and it was leading to xmas we were OK. The biggest thing to remember tho at the moment the euro is very poor against the £ so you have to take into consideration your return travel and fuel costs to get a bargain. It's getting to a point that you can get certin beers and wines as cheap in UK as europe now.

For instance i have just bought french cotes du rhone from UK tesco for 2.99 a bottle, you would pay £1.50 in France but then you have to add your expenses on.
