  1. We have to work to kix it

Today here is what we know:  many of mankind’s advancements cause earth surface to warm, destroy the ozone layer, kill off endanger species, heat cities, and in some way cause more destruction.  Blacktop (roads and parking lots), buildings, air pollution (causes lung and other diseases), deforestation, duststorms (which increase hurricanes and cyclones and cause lung diseases), fires (cause pollution, mud slides, and deforestation), refrigerants (like CFC's), solvents (including benzene destroy the ozone layer raising skin cancer rates) and plastics; cars, airplanes, ships and most electricity production (causes pollution including raised CO2 levels) are human problems we need to fix to keep life on earth sustainable! The federal government needs to adopt a pollution surcharge to balance the field and advance new technologies. We must pay the real price of oil (petrochemicals) including global warming, cleanup and for health effects. But with that we must understand we have never seen what is now happening before. CO2 has never lead to temperature change, but temperature change has led to increases in CO2. The models have to be made as we go along with little evidence! The result is:  change is on the way, we just do not know what changes. But again adding a small amount of CO2 to the atmosphere enlarges the earths sun collection causing warming; increase water in the atmosphere and they form clouds cooling earth but causing flooding. Even natural events are warming earth and causing destruction. The sun has an increased magnetic field causing increases in earthquakes (more destruction), volcanoes (wow, great destruction), and sun spots. Lighting produces ozone near the surface (raising air pollution levels). But humans have destroyed half of the wetlands, cut down nearly half of the rain forest, and advance on the earths grasslands while advancing desertification which increases duststorms. The USA Mayor's have taken a stand and I believe are on the right track, we can have control and can have economic growth. With the peak of oil in the 1970’s, the peak of ocean fishing in the 1980’s, humans must stop procrastinating and make real changes to keep earth sustainable including in the energy debate, finance and regulation. The sun is available to produce energy, bring light to buildings and makes most of human’s fresh water. Composting is the answer to desertification. New dams are the answer to fresh water storage, energy and cooling earth by evaporation, we need many small ones all over (California needs 100 by 2012 and has not even started).

President Bush has made a choice of energy (ethanol) over food and feeding the starving people around the world; this is a choice China has rejected.

That is why I founded CoolingEarth.org, a geoengineering web sight where you can learn more about earth, the atmosphere, and how to sustain life on earth’s surface.

  2. Yes it is all the scientist who are not paid off say it is natural too.

  3. Because the outcome means the death of just about everything. And its not right to s***w up our planet and act as if nothing happened

  4. corres

We definitely didn't start global warming, but we definitely do contribute to it now.

Natural gas (or Methane along with other thanes) for example, is completely a natural contributer to global warming and is derived pretty much the same way as oil. ie. Matter (animal, plant etc) decomposes over time resulting in a anaerobic (hope I spelled that right) decay of non-fossil organic material / gas (natural gas or methane).

One problem with global warming is that the concept is so vague in the minds of the people. The critical interpretation is basically how it’s explained in school and the news. However most of the public see global warming connected with the ozone and pollutants which cause harmful greenhouse gasses, etc. therefore investigating and fighting for things like alternative energy (ie. Solar, wind, hydrogen, ethanol, biodiesel, etc)

Greenhouse gases are real and do contribute to global warming. Think of the different gas layers like ozone (o3) that circumference the globe as the clear plastic on a greenhouse. Longer rays of light from the Sun go in and reflect off different thermal masses bouncing back and creating shorter lengths of energy that cannot exist the plastic barrier. These beams then just continue to bounce around inside the green house until they’re finally absorbed completely (some do escape but very few), thereby warming the greenhouse greatly even in cold temperatures.

Basically there are 2 ways that this reaction (or lack of) affects the planet. Global warming and global cooling.

    1. as we add to the gases in the stratosphere, where the ozone layer is (Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc), we add to the plastic of the greenhouse, trapping more short wave length energy and heating the earth more.

    2. as we deplete the ozone (with chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs), we allow more long wave length energy, which bounces back out to space without heating any thermal masses on earth, thereby cooling the planet.

It’s pretty easy to see the results..

    Melting ice sheets & glaciers

    Floods & droughts

    Great hurricanes & cyclones

    Seasonal extremes

    Seasonal phenomena’s

    Species extinction

    New & resurgent diseases

There are many ways to stop both global warming and cooling from accruing or at least slow them down until we can discover a way to reverse it, but Stop burning fossil fuels is the biggest.

I currently own 2 converted h2 vehicles which run on 100% hydrogen and 1 EV (electric vehicle), not to mention our home is completely off the grid, using alternative energy (solar, wind, etc)

  5. We should stop it if we dont we will all be on mars or something

  6. Your assumption that the current warming is natural is incorrect, and thus your question doesn't make sense.

There are many basic scientific facts which can only be explained if the current global warming is being caused by an increased greenhouse effect due to carbon dioxide accumulating in the atmosphere from humans burning fossil fuels.

For example, the planet is warming as much or more during the night than day.  If the warming were due to the Sun, the planet should warm a lot more during the day when the Sun has influence.  Greenhouse gases trap heat all the time, so they warm the planet regardless of time of day.  Another example is that the upper atmosphere is cooling because the greenhouse gases trap the heat in the lower atmosphere.  If warming were due to the Sun, it would be warming all layers of the atmosphere.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

We know it's warming, and we've measured how much:

    http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/science...

Scientists have a good idea how the Sun and the Earth's natural cycles and volcanoes and all those natural effects change the global climate, so they've gone back and checked to see if they could be responsible for the current global warming.  What they found is:

Over the past 30 years, all solar effects on the global climate have been in the direction of (slight) cooling, not warming.  This is during a very rapid period of global warming.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/62902...

    http://www.pubs.royalsoc.ac.uk/media/pro...

So the Sun certainly isn't a large factor in the current warming.  They've also looked at natural cycles, and found that we should be in the middle of a cooling period right now.

"An often-cited 1980 study by Imbrie and Imbrie determined that 'Ignoring anthropogenic and other possible sources of variation acting at frequencies higher than one cycle per 19,000 years, this model predicts that the long-term cooling trend which began some 6,000 years ago will continue for the next 23,000 years.'"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milankovitc...

    http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/ab...

So it's definitely not the Earth's natural cycles.  They looked at volcanoes, and found that

    a) volcanoes cause more global cooling than warming, because the particles they emit block sunlight

    b) humans emit over 150 times more CO2 than volcanoes annually

    http://volcano.und.edu/vwdocs/Gases/man....

So it's certainly not due to volcanoes.  Then they looked at human greenhouse gas emissions.  We know how much atmospheric CO2 concentrations have increased over the past 50 years:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mauna...

And we know from isotope ratios that this increase is due entirely to human emissions from burning fossil fuels.  We know how much of a greenhouse effect these gases like carbon dioxide have, and the increase we've seen is enough to have caused almost all of the warming we've seen over the past 30 years (about 80-90%).  You can see a model of the various factors over the past century here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Clima...

This is enough evidence to convince almost all climate scientists that humans are the primary cause of the current global warming.

  7. Alright.

I've never watched an inconvenient truth, but I have studied the earths past and climate change and whatnot. Cold and warm seasons come and go.

The earth is warming up, all scientists agree to that.

Never before in our planets history have the polar ice caps melted away in 30 years

Earth works around the process of natural selection. 30 years is not an adequate amount of time for animals to adapt and evolve to the climate change.

Yes Volcanos and other things contribute greatly to our CO2 output, but not enough to rip open our planets defense barrier (Ozone Layer).

This is man made, and great if you don't care about the future of humanity.

    But i do.

Stop thinking this will blow over, because if we don't take action, so many animals will have died out and more lives will be lost by crazy weather patterns (if you don't live out here in the midwest, you wouldn't know the half of it) and many coastal towns will be underwater.

not to mention bye bye ozone layer Hello Solar flares that would vaporize us all!!

    Start Caring NOW

  8. Global warming is NOT natural.

I suggest you look up the topic. read books. watch movies. inform yourself of the facts.

a really good movie which made me realize how bad the state of the world was in, The 11th Hour.

    Also An Inconvenient Truth.

    Global warming is very real.

  9. It is true. Humans account for about 1% of global heat. More people have died from numerous things limited by the government than have died from global warming (exactly 0% have died from global warming). CFC's being one example. Read about it I don't have time to explain it.

  10. I hate it! I JUST HATE IT! Why can't people do their research and not ask dumb questions like this?  Do you NOT care about our children's futures?  If we don't interfere, WE, yes YOU and ME will be gone soon.  The world will be gone soon because of global warming.  If we don't change now, it will be too late when people realized "OH MY GOD WHAT DID WE DO WRONG?" and thats when the global warming starts to kick into people lives. THATS when people start caring...PEOPLE only care for themselves NOT other people's futures.  YOUVE seen those celebrities talk about global warming.. MOST just do that for the fame and fortune..

  11. i agree with you that it is natural...but now what happens is it is more than what it happens normally..

you know that a ice berg which was alive for millions of years have been melted recently due to the increasing temperatures....

the temp increase made a lot of forest fires in USA and Australian countries...

large number of floods in all parts of the world...

polar bears have been striving for their lives...

in Antarctica, where we think no one lives has been a place for we to produce electricity and leave out the exhaust directly into the atmosphere...

new thing - ocean foam in Australia..

    what are these things..

also do u know that the warmest years were only recorded in the last decades..

then too many coast lying regions will disappear in the forthcoming years..

Florida going to vanish one day..

Maldives going to be in the sea....

  12. The current global warming is NOT natural--it is te result of human action--and we either do something about it--or it wil dosomething about us.

  13. That's just it, we can't stop it. The only thing we can do is lower our emissions and that doesn't even guarantee that the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere will level off and start to go down, since a warm ocean releases CO2 along with water vapor.

  14. Global warming is indeed natural!!!  But, humans are responsible for speeding up the process.  If it wasn't for our speeding up the process, the icecaps would be gone in 2298 and not 2015.  If you want some real good information about global warming, rent or buy "An Inconvenient Truth."  It is jam packed with information!!!

Back to your question.  Global warming is natural and we have had 5 or 6 iceages and periods like we are in now in Earth's history.  But we are speeding up the process sooo much, that the icecaps are predicted to have melted entirely by 2015.  We need to do something about it.  We as humans, are responsible for the earth.  Who else is going to take care of it?  We won't be able to stop global warming, but we need to undo what we have done.  What you can do is use products that the process of making them have not contributed to global warming.  You can also buy an electric or hybrid car.

  15. It isn't natural!  Ice cores taken in the arctic and antarctic show that the CO2 levels started rising about the time of the industrial revolution, and have been ever since.  To quote Pogo, "We have met the enemy, and he is us!"

As far as should we alter the outcome, if you're a member of the human race, we really should.  Global warming will have far-reaching, devastating effects, and may cause our civilization to collapse, and even bring on our extinction.

  16. Slight warming of the earth is likely to be natural. But the impact of human activities is speeding this process up. So, yes, we should stop speeding things up, becouse that's unnatural.

  17. I like the weather we been having,,,snow,,,bring on some more natural Global Warming

  18. its like the ice age.

    completely natural.

my guess is that earths orbit around the sun is getting tighter,

as in closer to the sun,

but then again, we had a government all those years ago when the ice age happened and they polluted so much it thickened the ozone layer and let less sun in, so everything froze.
