'Lonely' summer helped regain form: Alastair Cook
England’s opening batsman Alastair Cook gave credit to a lean summer that prompted him to find his form again in the ongoing 2010-11 Ashes Test series.
Cook said that he had a lacklustre summer when he did not score huge runs. He reckoned that it motivated him this winter to find his form.
“I spent a lot of last summer not scoring runs. It’s pretty lonely. When you don’t get any for a while, then you find form, you’ve got to make the most of it,” Cook admitted.
He spoiled Australia’s bowling attack in the Ashes as he scored a mammoth 776 runs in the series. Cook was close to scoring his second double century of the series in the final Ashes Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground before being dismissed by Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326
for 189.
Cook has become the second highest English run scorer in an Ashes series, behind Sir Walter Hammond who scored 905 runs during the 1928-29 series.
Cook’s batting average is at a tremendous 127.66 after batting for 36 hours and 11 minutes in the series. He also nicked in another honour for spending the most time at the crease by an Englishman in a Test series along with passing 1,000 first-class runs
on a tour.
“When you’re batting well you get into a rhythm, you don’t get flustered,” Cook said about his stamina.
Cook was aptly supported by Ian Bell who hit his maiden hundred in an Ashes series. The formidable duo added 154 runs for the sixth wicket on the third day of the Sydney Test.
The 26-year-old hailed his team saying they a lot of confidence in their ability as England are already leading the Ashes series 2-1. The visitors have also retained the Ashes trophy for the first time in 24 years on Australian soil.
