Hi all :D I have a 256MB SD memory card, which i usually just stick right into the hole (!) of my computer to transfer my images but today, when i put it in, nothing is happening? It normally comes up with a list, of what i can do with the data...does anyone know any manual ways i could do it or what could be wrong? Could i have too many pictures on it or something? (theres bout 2000 at 4 megapixel and about 20 at 10 megapixel)

ps i have Windows XP home edition

  1. there must be a fault with the memory card or you have used all the space up

  2. Hi The card will only accept enough pictures to reach the MB its designed for .

Your camera should have told you when the card was full.

If nothing is happening It means that for some reason your computer is not reading the card , or the card is corrupt.

Have you tried some other way of connecting the card to the computer , maybe the contacts on the card have been broken .

you should try the card on another computer .or another camera .

What does the camera say about the card .

You should be able to connect your camera to your computer and read your files in that way

  3. Depending upon your camera, you can get a 2GB SD card for under $10.

You will have to use your computers file manager to open the card reader on your computer and then drag and drop the image files over to your computer ... then format the card using the format feature on your camera ... My guess is that with all those photos on that small card, you have tiny files and you have been deleting images when every you think you were running out of room on the card.  Both practices are discouraged.

In order to get good prints from digital files, they need to be shot at your cameras highest resolution and if you do not want your card to become corrupted, stop deleting image files using your cameras delete feature.

Do that on the computer so you can actually see what you are deleting.  Using the tiny 2 inch LCD, is just asking for problems.

  4. Can you still view your pictures on camera?

If so, your card is probably OK.

Click on my computer and see if an icon for your card pops up (or removable drive). Right click and explore.

Also, sometimes built in card readers (the hole in the computer you mentioned) give out.  You might need an external card reader.

  5. Check the card to make sure that you have not accidentally moved the lock slider. Its on the side of the card.

If still no joy, connect the camera to the pc with the usb cable that came with the camera. Also, think about getting a card reader.
