'Oh what a tangled web they weave who try a new word to conceive!' is a quote from J.R.R Tolkien.

I have heard it is a parody of another quote, and I was wondering if anyone knows what that quote was.

  1. "Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive."

It was on a movie called "The Perfect Man" starring Hilary Duff.

The kid in the movie who was asked to explain what this quote meant said it meant that lies get complicated. That once you tell one lie, you have to tell more and more lies to cover up that you lied in the first place. And then it leaves you in this big mess of lies that you cant find your way out of.

    Hope this helped<3.
