Question:

'On call' for a shift?

What does it mean if I'm 'on call' on a certain day, for work?

Is it just what it sounds like, that I have to come in whenever they call, if the call? Will they call for sure, or no?

Thanks!

  1. On Call usually means you need to stay home (or close to home if you have a cell phone) in case you are needed at work and they can call you in.  At my current company, on weekends the tech support people just need to be home so they can help customers from their computer.  They don't have to drive to the office.  Ask at your company what exactly is required when you are on call.

  2. this is a free be for the company. if on call ask for money or walk.

  3. it means u are not in work but they can call u in anytime

  4. on call can be different depending on the type of work

you do, for example when people who work in IT or doctors,

etc are on call they can be called in at any time of their oncall,

however if you work in retail or at a resteraunt or what not,

let's say your oncall was 5-10, they usually would have you

call in at 4 and see if they need you, incase someone didnt

show up. or atleast thats what happens to me.
