  1. You mean: why do clocks run in a clockwise direction?

    I believe the answer to this lies in the old sundial technology. The shadow of the gnomon (the center stick or indicator on the dial) moved in a "clockwise" fashion as the sun traversed the sky, so when clocks with indicator hands were developed, it made sense for the hands to move in a similar fashion.


  2. The direction was originally chosen to be that of a sundial shadow in the northern hemisphere, because the latter was the device the clock was suppose to emulate and replace.

  3. The direction in which a clock runs is only called clockwise because all clocks run that way. When the first clock was made, if it was made to run in anti-clock wise direction, then that would be called clockwise direction.
