  1. I am an aide to a high functioning autistic 6th grader.  I adore him.  He is one of the nicest kids I have ever met.  He does go off into his own world now and then, but honestly, he seems genuinely happy.  He gets wonderful grades and has some friends in school.  I guess what we have to think about is this... these children with whatever degree of autism they have, don't know any different.  This is just who they are.  I don't believe that they desire to be anyone else but themselves.  And I think we should accept them for who they are.  (not that you don't... but some are closed minded)

  2. I have Aspergers.  Have since I was young.

What kind of experiences did you want to hear about? I have experience in work, school, and now I have experience in trying to be a mother.

  3. I volunteer weekly at a disabled swimming club for 3-16 year olds, and we have loads of autistic kids who come along, and they're so great to work with. Im only 16 and I get so much out of the sessions, knowing that im helping them not only to learn how to swim but to boost their confidence and self esteem. And knowing that some autistic children dont get the chance to socialise or just have some time to be a kid, it really makes me smile when i see them playing and having a good time!
