Question:

'hd ready' projector fraud- who should i complain to?

there are a number of advertisements on ebay for 'hd ready' projectors with hdmi input, tv tuner etc. I made the mistake of bidding on one myself. What the ads don't say is that the native resolution is 640x480- as per manufacturer's specs- which is much lower than the European definition of hd ready. Does any one know who I should complain to about this? Or is it not actually illegal to call something 'HD ready' (rather than 'hd compatible') just because it can take hd input and play it after downscaling? Any ideas anybody? Incidentally has anyone bought one of these (typically they have claimed lamplife of 6000 hours and replacement bulbs at $30) and what has their experience been?

  1. ebay has a lot of those. they should have an e-mail address or talk to the person you got it from, its not illegal but if you really  think about it it could be

  2. In the US,  TVs  that accept HD, but downscale to 640x480 are traditionally called EDTVs

    In Europe, EICTA defines

"EICTA conditions for HD Labeling of Display Devices" which I believe still require that a device can display at least 720 lines, before it can be called HD Ready.

You should complain to e-bay for misleading advertising

  3. You should know what to expect as fast as you see the price you know to good to be true.

But in real terms HD ready means it can accept an hd signal but the biggest disadvantage is that you will need a box to convert the signals, so it can be consider a misleading ad that depends on how ebay see this because in terms of auctions you are responsible to read all the specs and terms of the equipment not buying it because you saw the word HD-ready, you can always dispute this thru ebay but i dont see it too promising.

    *HDTV-ready

The term used to describe TVs which can display digital high-definition TV formats when connected to a separate HDTV tuner. These TVs generally have built-in tuners for receiving regular NTSC broadcasts, but not digital. An HDTV-ready TV may also be referred to as an "HDTV monitor."

  4. Yeah that's rough. "HD ready and HD compatible are broad terms. But also don't be sold on the lamp life details. if it says six thousand hours that means anywhere between two and three thousand hours. I have never heard of a lamp lasting that long, even on economy mode and I have installed countless projectors.

    Good luck
