?'s about Wii Pokemon Battle Revolution?

DS 9 rented this and can't figure it out. He says he beat the initial battle (free battle pass?) but can't go any further, after beating the pass he turned it off - says he did save it. He thinks he should be able to go "out" and walk around looking for people to battle and pokemon to catch like on his other pokemon games but says he can't. When he turns it on he is taken to another free battle pass instead of being allowed to pick up where he left off. Sounds to me like he didn't save but he swears I'm wrong LOL
