HI,

Out of so many trigonometry questions i went through this one seemed impossible i am so confused please help can u show me how to do step by step?

Q:

Two model rockets launched from two different launch pads G & D. From an observation site, O, rocket A has been launched at N28 degrees WEST and rocket B has been luanched at N40 degrees EAST. The angle of elevation from the observation location is 29 degrees for rocket A and 37 degrees for rocket B. If the distance between the observation site and launch pad G is 120m and the distance from observation site to a launch pad D is 80m, what is the distance between the two rockets AFTER THE LAUNCH.

  1. I am assuming that rocket A is launched from G, and rocket B from D. Also (important) the rockets travel vertically, and reach apogee at the same time.

    Step 1: determine altitude of each rocket

    A = 120 tan (29) = 66.5 m

    B = 80 tan (37) = 60.3 m

    Step 2: The rockets' altitude differ by 66.5 - 60.3 = 6.2 m

    Step 3: Detemine the distance btw/ G and D:

    SAS triangle using law of cosines:

    c^2 = a^2 + b^2 - 2ab cos C

    C = 40 + 28 = 68

    c = 116.7 m

    Step 4: Pythagorian Th to determine distance btw/ rockets

    d^2 = 6.2^2 + 116.7^2

    d = 116.8 m

  2. haha im back n just saw this "super hard one" hah well its not. piece of cake indeed

    u know what, the main thing of this problems are drawing the whole thing correcty. once u got that, you can bet that with the laws of sines and cosines and the pythagorean theorem all would be piece of cake.

    the only real question when looking at the problem is : "rocket A is launched from G pad, or is it launched from D pad? it is not clear when reading it

    then in this one it isnt only one triangle, it is a solid made of triangles .

    its dificult to explain the figure here n even if i solve it writing the letters that make certain angle n stuff u won get it at all if u dont understand the figure

    the answer is 197,87m assuming that the rocket A is launched from the G pad.

    try hard n then all this problems would be all the same thing 4 u no matter how many triangles the teacher put in the problem

    peace
