3GB RAM/Memory Stick?

Do they sell 3GB memory sticks for notebook pc's? I wanted to upgrade my 1GB memory to 3GB, but on the websites and flyers, all I see are 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, and 2GB, but no 3GB. Are the 3GB ones going to come out? Also, how can you tell if your notebook is upgradeable or not? If the 3GB memory chips are out or are coming out, how much are they or how much will they cost? Thanks!

  1. No, there is no such thing as 3GB memory sticks (sadly).

    Notebooks that come with 3GB of RAM are actually a 1GB stick and a 2GB stick (1GB + 2GB = 3GB's).

You should buy either 2 x 2GB Sticks or 1GB stick and a 2GB stick.

This Should cost you anywhere from $50-$200

  2. Well... to start memory has something called dual channel which means it must come in even numbers. And if you have XP not Vista that's worthless because XP only reads 3.5 gb. Alright what I would do is buy 4 gb of ram ( 2 x 2gb) of some DDR2 800. just get rid of that 1 gb stick keep for something in the future or sell.
