3 friends went to have some stuff. they got a bill of $75 distributed equally i.e 25each. the manager returned $5, the waiter returnd $3 to them which they distributed among them selves mean $24each. that mean 24+24+24=72+2(waiter's)=74 mean $1 short.. where is it ?????

The people above me are right.

In the end each friend had $1 ($1 x 3 = $3), the waiter had $2 and the manager had $70.

I don't know, but the tip wasn't nearly enough.

If the manager returned 5, that would mean 70 dollars. If the waiter returned 3 that would mean 67 dollars.  That would mean the bill was 67 dollars and they gave the waiter 3. That would be 70 dollars divided by three   23.333 each since the manager returned 5 and the waiter gave them 2.  Thats 7 dollars off the original 75.  total bill was 67.  23.333. each including the cheap tip for the waiter.

This is an old chestnut and is a trick question. However the trick is that you are adding the $2 instead of subtracting.

In reality they paid $72 comprising of $70 for the bill and $2 to the waiter. So they paid $24 each, that's 3 x 24 = $72. $70 + $2 = $72. No missing dollar

you do not add 2 to 72 simply because you added three.  so check your math please... 24+24+24=72 + 3 = 75  or simply put, 75 - 5 = 70 + 3 (returned) + 2 (waiter took) = 75.  where is the problem?  your basic math...

They each paid $24, the bill was $70. There is $2 left over, in the waiter's pocket.  Why do you want to add the $2 twice?
