3g and an iphone... please help me! =S?

I'm currently on at&t...

My phone has some thing called 3g, my smart chip thing has 3g on it, my signal bars have 3g next to them...

Now i have no clue what 3g means, nor do i know what it does so if you could tell me that it'd be ace... But what i really want to know is, will my smart chip / simcard work with a 1st generation iphone, not the 3g one?

3G stands for 3rd generation, or the third generation of cell phone transmission technology, of which the new iphone is a part. As far as your sim card working on an original iphone, I believe it can.
