3rd cartilage piercing?

Question

i got one of my cartilage piercings with a gun and the other with a needle. i want to get another, but

--will using a gun really shatter your cartilage, how?

--is using a regular non-hollowed needle the same as using a gun?

i think the gun forces a hole, applying too much pressure, the hollow needle i think would be best for cartilage piercing because it reduces additional scar tissue.
