My 3yr old son hates loud noises, he will cover his ears and tell me it hurts. Has anyone experienced this and is it anything to worry about. He seems to hear fine otherwise.

  1. My 4 year old nephew is so loud himself, he tends to scream instead of talking, even if he is right next to you. But if anything else is loud, even if you turn the car radio up a bit to a good song and it's not even that loud, he covers his ears and starts yelling that it's too loud. I don't know why this is, neither does his mom, but it's not something that we're concerned about, he just doesn't like it. Since your son says that it hurts though, I would make sure that he's not actually in pain, grimacing or something, because he might have an ear infection or something. If he seems to be alright he probably is and just doesn't like the noise.

  2. I'm 70 & I hate loud noises too. As others have said it's probably ok, kids commonly react to loud noises in this way, however it is something that concerns you so there is no harm in having the doctor check him over. Better safe than sorry.

  3. I hate loud noises too. But, loud noises are in life, and he'll have to deal with that eventually.

  4. I don't think you have anything to worry about. My son who will be seven at the end of this month has always hated loud noises and he still hates a couple of loud noises such as fire engines and fireworks.

I was very concerned about his hearing and took him to an ear doctor last year. He didn't respond immediately when his teachers, myself, or my husband talked to him so I thought he had a hearing problem and it also made me more concerned about his sensitivity to loud noises.  It turned out that his hearing was perfect and he just had selective hearing.
