My husband's friend's daughter is 21 and needs her tonsils removed. She doesn't have the money nor has health insurance. She has gotten estimates starting at $4,000 MINIMUM, Poor thing, she's miserable. I wish I had the money to loan but we're tight these days too. Help!

  1. Poor thing??!!

She needs a lecture about being a responsible adult.  If the taxpayers end up paying for her then she is a leech.  There is a reason health insurance exists.  Tell her to get some.  She can always try Mexico or India.  I hear medical tourism there is huge.

  2. She should apply for Medicaid, it may be her best bet. Also, considering her age, if her parents have health insurance, depending on the plan they may be able to put her on their policy. But if finances are really tight, then Medicaid would be the way to go. It's there for a reason! If she is not able to get Medicaid, then she should talk to the hospital and ask if they have a charity care program. It would have to be approved by a committee, but it's a good option to try. Good luck and I hope she gets the care she needs!

  3. based upon your situation,I think you should find something useful here.http://health-insurance.expert-tip.info/...

  4. She needs to negotiate a prepaid, cash price, with both the hospital and the surgeon.  SHe might be able to cut it in half.

Or, she can go to her church, and see if they can help.   And her parents - your husband's friend - should be willing to help.  Heck, if he delivered pizza on weekends during football season, that should pay for it!
