I have a 4' tropical tank with 2 breeding angelfish, 4 small clown loaches and 1 rainbow shark. I have a terrible problem developing with algae - which cory / pleco could I add? Would they have any problems from the shark etc.? Thanks

  1. Hi, it sounds like your tank could be 50-55g, plecos need at least a 55g tank because they can grow very big.

Rainbow sharks can be aggressive to algae cleaners, particularly plecos.  Maybe you could try a cory, the 3 lined cory is a beautiful fish that only grows to around 2 inches, they should ideally be in a group of 3 or more, which gives you a bit more flexibility than the pleco.

I hope that helped, good luck :)

  2. You can try a Hong Kong Pleco which stays small - only gets to about 3"

Also an Otocinclus - another small algae eater - only 2"

Both types are very peaceful, won't trouble any of your other fish.  Not sure how the rainbow shark would react - though I had an Oto in with an Albino Shark and there were no problems.

  3. how many gallons is it

    try

    snails

    a pleco

or a Chinese algae eater but sell it if it becomes aggressive
