I'm currently running around 3.5 miles now, but the race is coming up fast. I'm only trying to finish the race still jogging, not for speed or time. If I got up to 4 miles this week and next week, would I be OK for the run?

  2. With a week left, there is no training you could do to get your body acclimated to the distance. It takes your body 10 days after a run to feel the positive effects of that run...  increased speed, strength, endurance...

However, what I can tell you is that on race day, there tends to be all sorts of excitement that might be able to help you through. Also, try finding someone in the back of the pack that  looks like they can use a running buddy. You can usually find someone friendly who you can both push each other through.

  3. well just pace yourself a little slower. when i run i go really slow. but when i did a 2 mile run i went considerably faster. when your in a race  for some reason you usually do better. so i dont think you have too much to worry about. bring an ipod. music helps alot

  4. try running with someone that might help you to push yourself a little bit harder.

  5. I had the same problem for one of my races. I could only run 4 miles MAX when I had to run a 8k (5 mile) race next week. I just decided to go for it. I ate alot of carbs before and took 2 days break of running before the race. This gave me a good rest to give it my all and the carbs gave me alot of energy. Also, I took garlic pills the night before the race which helps cardiovascular. Also, the race will give you alot of energy with everyone there and such. I finished the race fine!!! Good luck!
