4 Players Who Will Have a Tough Time with New Teams Next Season -NHL Special
Fans are on the edge of their seats waiting for a new regular season to kick off, but with the lockout prevailing in the National Hockey League (NHL) at the moment, there is no telling when that might happen.
Whenever the regular season does come about in full force, here are four players that I think will not only have a tough time adjusting right away with their new teams, that they signed with over the offseason, but flop big time when it comes time to perform.
Alexander Semin (Carolina Hurricanes)
When the Carolina Hurricanes brought on Alexander Semin from the Washington Capitals with a one-year, $7 million contract, it was all hype for him and his new club. But right after they signed on Jordan Staal, to reunite him with brother and captain of the
Carolina squad, Eric Staal, things just began looking down for Russian native.
Semin is no doubt one of the best players in the NHL at the moment and has been consistent ever since being drafted by the Washington Capitals as their 13th overall back in 2002, but he was looking to become a leader on a team instead of following
in the tracks of Alex Ovechkin and with the addition of Jordan Staal, Semin will be once again, pushed to the sidelines.
54 points (21 goals, 33 assists) were put up by Semin for the second straight season, proving his consistency to be a great player and being just 28, he needs to get back into form when he potted 80-plus back in 2009-2010. Hopefully, the Russian player may
be able to have a breakthrough, but by the looks of it, he may just end of looking around to sign another contract after the next season comes to an end, with another team that is.
Olli Jokinen (Winnipeg Jets)
Olli Jokinen is one of the most diverse and adaptable players throughout the NHL, but when it comes to kicking off a fresh season with the Winnipeg Jets, it is just really hard to think that he will be able to adjust to a team filled with hot blooded rookies
looking to take the stage.
The Jets signed Jokinen on with a two-year contract for $9 million and want to use his veteran leadership in order to establish a base for their younger members of the team, at the age of 33, Jokinen has not really been playing the way Winnipeg did right
from its first season.
Jokinen had 61 points (23 goals, 38 assists) in 82 games last season, but it will be hard for him to go above 30-40 points for sure next season.
