Hi - can anyone tell me if there is anywhere in England where I can buy a vehicle that can be used to carry 3 or 4 wheelchairs that I need to do school runs.

The vehicle ideally can be used although I would consider new if the price is right !

  1. Hi, I work within this area, ( Care Worker) regards the carriage of wheel chairs if buying 2nd hand, there has to be hooking points on the floor, seat belt attachments for the peole within the wheel chairs, & also the Insurance, I hope you do not think I am being offensive with my answer, Only advise.

  2. I think to be honest with you, to enable you to carry 3 to 4 wheelchairs you would need something like an LDV convoy minibus. Obviously as you know you would need to spend a lot on coverting it and sticking a lift on the back etc. but I've just had a butchers at autotrader http://www.autotrader.co.uk/VANS/vans.js...

and there are LOADS of cheap ex school minibuses you could pick up.

    hope this helps :)

  3. New would be VERY expensive! The conversion costs are high.

The various local authorities who run Day Services for people with disabilities run these vehicles so why not make some enquiries to your local County council asking where they pass their vehicles to for sale when they have finished with them.  It will be to an auction house somewhere. An ex authority vehicle will have been meticuously maintained!

You could also make enquiries to Charities such as Mencap and SENSE as I know that both of these do not always buy new and use these vehicles at their Day Services.
