  1. I agree,

    fetch the nit nurses back!

I never had nits as a child, since I have had my own kids we have had them half a dozen times!

    Arghh!

Combing through with a nit comb on hair slathered in conditioner, five days on the trot usually does the trick!

  2. Know thy enemy...

    A great louse site.

Just keep combing I'm afraid - nit comb weekly with conditioner in so that it doesn't damage her hair.

Don't keep using products, as they damage hair and scalp (and cost a fortune).

Keep her hair tied back at school.

Use tea tree oil, or a tea tree shampoo (some say that the lice don't like it.)

    Good luck!

  3. Olive Oil will suffocate them...here are the instructions:

  4. put loads of conditioner on - i'm talking like half a bottle here, way more than you'd usually use.  it doesn't have to be medicated stuff, either - something for dry hair is usually best as they are thicker, and will be much kinder on her scalp.

then wrap her hair and the top of her head from the forehead to the back of the neck  in cling film to keep the air out for a couple of hours.  you need to make sure that you wrap it quite snugly around her forehead and behind her ears and under her hair at the back, and then seal off the top over her hair, perhaps adding more cling film if she has a lot of hair.

it looks a bit daft but we used to put an old pair of knickers over the top to keep the cling film in place.  a towel turban over the cling film is just as good but harder to wash afterwards.  you could use a bobble hat or similar if you don't mind it getting conditioner on it - some always leaks out of the cling film.

this kills more of the lice, as they suffocate under the conditioner.  comb through with a nit comb after this, and then repeat after 4-5 days.  you will need to do this at least three times to ensure that she doesn't have unhatched eggs on her scalp.

  5. you have to think ..everything she has been in contact with is infested and reinfesting her. The couch the pillow the car seats..stuffed animals ..anything with fabric.

  6. Vodka is good for getting rid of the little buggers, so is covering your childs head with baby oil before bed, wash it off in the morning, go through it with a nit comb to get them all out then wash hair again as it'll be greasy from the oil.

My 10 year old had them on and off for 5 months cos some lazy parents couldn't be bothered to do their kids hair; scummy gits.

It sure is a waste of good vodka, that's why we ring her hair out over a glass and drink it afterwards ;)

  7. lice have a 5 day cycle, so the best thing to do is to wet your daughters hair, put on conditioner and comb through with a nit comb (make sure it has teeth small enough to catch the eggs) do this every day for 5 consecutive days and this will break the laying, hatching, laying cycle.  Headlice are a nightmare and it is the only thing that works for my kids.

Good luck with the battle - I hope you win the war.

  8. you buy some lice spray from a pharmacy and spray

  9. take her to the pharmacy or doctors and they should be able to help

  10. I would go to the doctors as they will give you stronger stuff

    hope she is ok

  11. when i was 10 i had nits for a year and a half i kept getting rid and one of my friends kept giving them back it was h**l my mum told my teacher and she told the parents it was going round they were gone within a week!

  12. Use a natural nit conditioner which is less harsh on the scalp. Comb her hair with a metal nit comb dipped in vinegar. Do this every night for a week.

Nits are horrible to have, I had them four times in primary school.

The vinegar really works but I can't stomach the smell of vinegar anymore. It reminds me of school and itchy scalps.

  13. poor you!! ive got 5 kids and have more than had my fair share of nit infestations!! i'm lucky, got all boys, so if i get in a situation like yours i shave all their hair off!

bottom line is, if shes still got nits after 4 days your just not getting all the eggs out, if you miss just a couple by the next day your back at square one.....1 of my younger boys has got longer hair, its a nightmare....after ive done all the combing through with the nit comb, again and again till nothing is coming out, i then dry his hair, and starting at the back go through it all in tiny tiny sections looking for eggs, the only way to get them out is with your finger nails, it takes forever, but like i say you cant leave so much as one egg......i dont know if thats any help to you.......good luck with it all anyway x

  14. Visit this site

    www.nittygritty.co.uk

this is the only nit comb i`ve found that gets all the lice AND eggs, brilliant product and you can even get it free if you ask your DR`s for a prescription for it!!!

My boys suffered time and time again untill i got hold of one of these...good luck x

  15. poor baby and shes only 5? that sucks! i would say take her to the doctor maybe they can prescribe something...?

  16. last year when my daughter was in the reception year she got nits every other week, i spent a fortune on lotions and potions, what i did at the end was slap on plenty of conditioner when she was in bath and section her hair and comb through with a metal toothed nit comb as i found the plastic combs useless, after doing this for about 18 days they were gone, but you have to wash all bedding, coats etc and buy new hair brushes too as i found out that a lice can live for 24 - 48 hours away from the scalp

  17. A friend of mine swore that the only thing that worked with hers was dousing the hair and scalp thoroughly with vinegar and wrapping it in a towel.  Leave it for about an hour.  Comb, comb, comb.

I had it as a kid and the medicine from the pharmacy worked.  You must wash the towels, PJ's, clothes (especially shirts) sheets etc EVERY DAY in HOT water.  I also think you can get special laundry soap or put a bit of bleach in, especially for the pillow case.

  18. I agree !!!, nit nurses were great !! (well I can now see that....not at the time)

We has same problem....so we went to the Dr who said teh nits  CAN become resistant to the medicated stuff you put on the hair, he gave us something stronger and it worked.  It is also better for the kiddies this stuff anyway...your Dr will give u something, sorry I can't remember the name of ours, believe it or not we have used it all up !!, hope it all goes well, it isn't nice for your child or you !, xx
