  1. 4) There are many ways by which pollutants can harm species of animals.  Many pollutants are poisonous or can create conditions which make it impossible for living things to survive.  An example of the latter is the current problem of industrial pollution being dumped into waterways.  The chemicals and particulate matter block sunlight from reaching the bottom of the river.  This kills off underwater plantlife which need sunlight to live and  would have supplied oxygen to the fish in the river.  When that happens, fish not able to relocate die off.  Currently, in the Chesapeake Bay, there is a giant "dead zone" where the oxygen levels in the water has been completely depleted, leaving dirty water with no fish and no plants at all.

    5) Captive environments are not good for preserving species because the species are removed from their natural habitat and survival conditions.  For example, an young animal which has grown up being fed every day by humans may not develop the hunting skills it needs to live in the wild.  This animal may also lack the ability to interact with other animals of its kind.  Furthermore, captive animals frequently run into disease and have a hard time recovering.

    6) You may want to check wikipedia.org for a good definition of this.  I can give an example of what might be considered a habitat conservation plan, though:  For the problem of the "dead zone" in the Chesapeake Bay described above, some groups, including the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and Lynnhaven River Now, are starting oyster colonies at especially vulnerable areas of the waterways.  The reason for this is that oysters are amazingly effective at cleaning pollution out of water.  By choosing local species of oysters and spreading them out at all points in the water, eventually the waterways may become clean.  Then all they have to do is replace the underwater plantlife, and the fish and other aquatic creatures will return to the bay.

  2. 4) think about it what would happen to you if you went swimming in a pool of industrial waste (sodium chloride with a touch of mercury)

5)if you have a captive breeding stock the young could be released into the wild without human contact(whooping cranes, peregrine falcons)

6)depends on the habitat if it is a forest dwelling animal reduce forest depletion,if a water (river) prevent damming of said waterway, lake prevent shoreline erosion,if a field or meadow dwelling animal then maintain the grass land by cutting or burning the land after the animal has left or migrated

(this has got to be worth 10 points)
