We have brought her to the vet and she had vaginitis. We are feeding her the recommended amount of food. She has gained a pound in the last week. We just had her checked again and her urine was fine. Any thoughts????

She has been doing this (drinking and peeing frequently) since we got her. When we first went to the thats when we found out about the vaginitis and got some meds. She is still on the meds but the habit has not changed.

At night there is no water she does night cry for it and goes all night without it and only pees once. When the water is she will go for it. Would she be thirsty at night if it was diabetes?

What are the other signs of diabetes? She is very active and playful, likes to eat.

Any thoughts what is causing the pot belly?

And is the weight gain normal of 1lb in a week?

Would coccidia have anything to due with the potbelly?

Could the frequent peeing I think is due to the vaginitis

  1. What breed is she? Does she get the potbelly look after drinking  a lot of water? You may want the vet to check for Juvenile Kidney Dysplasia.Weight gain does correlate with this but you never know.1lb a week can be quite normal depending upon what breed she is.What is she getting for meds? These may be causing an issue.Albon is generally used in the case of coccidia not urinary tract infection because of the probelms with overuse.

Added:Please check out this information. You need to discuss with the vet.You may be harming your pup, in reference to her kidneys/liver..http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Rx_Info_Sh...

  2. when they get infections in the urinary track it can make their bellys look a little bloated and they pee a lot. with diabetes she will be real hungry and thirsty all the time and weight loss is a sign.start adding cranberry juice or a cranberry capsule to her food every day and give her yogart to kill any yeast in her system.the preantibiotic yogart is good just a couple of teaspoons a day.as she gets older her belly will smooth out and become leaner with the growth spurts. blood tests for sugar can be done but with the infection she has it makes her thirsty and drinking lots is a good way to clean her out.u can get womens yeast infection cream and put it on to help heal the area up just don't let her l**k it off. the more she drinks the more she will pee so at night u can give her a few ice cubes to curb her thirst until morning.let her drink lots for now and if she is loosing weight and has an uncontrolable hunger or the shakes inbetween feedings have her blood tested. good luck with ur baby.

  3. I truly think it would be best if you phoned your vet and asked these important questions.  My distant second choice would be to try one of the many Ask a Vet web sites.  Young puppies may seem to pee a lot.  Is she peeing too often or too much?  Ask your vet.  The medication she is may be making her very thirsty.  Ask your vet.  Often, a pot belly on a dog means a roundworm infection.  Bring a stool sample to your vet for testing.  Coccidia would give her terrible diarrhea.  Your vet will be able to tell you if worms or other parasites are present.  Who recommended the amount of food you give your dog, the vet or was it just the package suggestion of the amount ot feed?  I wouldn't leap to any conclusions about diabetes.  Are you sure she is crying for water at night or is she lonely?  You know what to do, right?  Call your vet.

  4. well i think she is going to have to get her KUIRN needle done so she gets better.
