My special needs 8 year old is in need of home schooling, but there is only 4 more months left untill school is out for the summer. Can I still take him out now to be home schooled, then continue through the summer to try to give him a head start for 3rd grade home schooling?

  1. Yes i believe it is best to give him a head start and continue through the summer only for like a month.

  2. in my opinion i think you should leave him in for the rest of the 4 months then contintue through the summer

but it is still a good idea to take him out now to get a head start then you do it for the rest of his grades

  3. If he is really in need of homeschooling then I believe the longer you leave him to struggle, the harder it will be for both of you to not only deschool him and transition smoothly into homeschool, but also to catch up in the areas he struggles in. Take him out now. You obviously feel like you should.

  4. I don't see why not. I've never heard of somebody not being allowed to pull their child in the middle of the year and since he's only in elementary, there shouldn't be a problem getting him back in school. Just make sure he follows the same curriculum so there aren't any problems going back to school.

*Warning: As you find resources and help and learn more about homeschooling, you may come to feel that homeschooling is the best thing for your child for the long-term. :)

  5. I pulled my kids out just before Christmas 2006. I got a curriculum from my older sister and it came with a lesson plan. We just picked it up at week one and finished the year on week 18. You can pull your child out at time during the school year.

Is your son receiving therapy's through the school? If he is then you can still get the therapy sessions through them for free. They may try to tell you differently but learn your rights before you go. www.hslda.org is a great place to start for the laws you need to live by in your state.
