  1. I like all the other answers especialy aj but I have one more, depending on if it is in a garage or carport they make a twist lock  outlet for campers, the prongs are in a circular pattern with all flat curved blades whole thing about one and a quarter inch across. To help identify the others if it has 3 flats and 1 round it's probably a 50amp range. If 2 flats 1 round and 1 L probably a 30amp dryer, both of these are large about 2 inch across.Hope this helps.

  2. Mainly used in mobile homes for the dryer plug. Should be rated for 30 Amps and 240 volts

  3. 4 prong is used for many applications where there is a need for 4 wires to an appliance. we see them a lot at work with a switched live. this is where an appliance has a permanent live and one that is working as an on off switch. so you would have 1 a earth 2 a neutral 3 a live and 4 a switched live.

  4. sounds like a 220v plug.

  5. Theres a different take on this. If the four holes are small and round  it could be an older telephone jack from days gone by. Thats how they were years ago. If it's a small little box on the wall about 2 inches square with small wires running to them it's a phone line. The holes are about an inch square a little wider at on end.

  6. A four prong outlet is used for electric dryers and electric ranges.  These appliances use 240volt AC power.  The outlet has 2 legs of 120v AC voltage, a neutral and a ground connection.  Some air conditioners also work on 240v AC.

  7. It's called three faze wiring. You have 2 wires 110 v 1 wire ground 1 wire neutral. It's manly used for ovens, dryers and some of the older air conditioners and furnace in a home.If you have a plug in your home and small children go to the hardware store and buy a safety plug to cover it.It is the most dangerous plug in your home.
