Hi, i don't know much about speakers and amps so i need some help. I have 4 speakers in my car. The 2 front ones (10cm) are 110W max and the back ones are 6x9" 330W max. I want a 1200W sub aswell. Now, what amp would i need? Is a 4-channel, 2000W amp suffice to run all 4 speakers plus the sub? or is that too much? I really don't know

  1. dude-

you do NOT need 2000 watts of power.  I had a system with a little over 200 watts of power and it consistently won the decibel contest in variou competitions.  Think quality not quantity when looking at amplifiers.

Get a HiFonics Gemini.  it is a 4 channel amp with built in crossover ( a crossover sends the right frequencies to the right speakers so you don't fry anything).  you will want to bridge the 4 car speakers in parallel to the 1st two channels of the amplifier,  then bridge the second two channels in Mono ( read the amp instructions on which terminals to do this from) tothe subwoofer.  Then use the crossover to filter out all of the base from your car's front 4 speakers so you don't blow them out.  The Gemini is an amazing amp and will last you a long time.

  2. ive asked this same question too. i found out that the best thing to do is to buy a 4 channel for your speakers and a mono for your sub. a sub should always have its own amp. A better way to measure your speakers is not by the max but by the speaker's RMS. you should use the rms numbers to find an amp that best matches. good luck.

  3. get a 5 channel amp Memphis belle amp is a good one.

    75 watts x 4 chan. / 300 watts x 1 chan. @ 4 ohms

    115 watts x 4 chan. / 600 watts x 1 chan. @ 2 ohms

    1100 watts x 1 chan. @ 1 Ohm (ONLY CHANNEL 5 IS 1 OHM STABLE!)
