  1. 2 strokes have always been race bikes. 2 strokes are quick, throttle response is amazing, fast, and accel. to speed in an instant. Cons for 2 strokes are the tops ends only last so long before you have to rebuild them. maybe 2 - 3 times in a season. top ends are easy though. 2 stroke production will stop in 2010 or 2012. they smoke alot. 4 strokes are strong torque monsters. they last a full season on the top end but the top end is a pain to rebuild. they are quiet compared to 2stroke.2 stroke riders are out there butare becoming scarce. I have a friend that started on a CR 250 2 stroke. Man had only ridden a dirtbike when he bought it in his yard. No previous experience. Went and entered a Motocross race and placed 3rd out of 44 riders that where pros. Now he is sponsered by KTM and has a new KTM 525 and all new gear. He still rides the 250 and loves it. They are bad bikes and have a good advantage to 4 strokes.

  2. My son races both and finds that the 4 stroke has more balls.  He is light and an A grade rider so has to hang on hard on the 250 4 stroke and when the classes race together if he chooses the 125cc (which he sometimes does depending upon the track) he finds he will make up ground on the corners due to skill and then he has to watch it on the straights against the 4 strokes as if not careful he will lose ground.

But if you are only getting one bike I would stick to the 4 stroke as the 125cc are slowly disappearing off the grid.

  3. will b are u having a laugh a fourtroke can not last 24 hours on a tank of gas.

neway the advantages of a two stroke are

    there cheaper

    they are lighter

    cheaper to maintain

    easier to work on

    start well when hot

    there quiter

    the disadvantages are

they are slightley underpowered compared to fourstrokes

    they arent being updated anymore

they dont grip like a fourstroke

the disadvantages of a fourstroke are

    expensive and difficult to repair

    heavier

    hard to start when hot

    more expensive to buy

    the advantages are

    more power and torque

    easier to ride

    more reliable

    better out the gate

if i were you i would go fourstroke there better all round

  4. if you take the cc's of a 2 stroke dirtbike and double them (125*2) then you get the # of cc's a 4 stroke has to have to roughly be the same. (2 stroke 125= about a 4 stroke 250) 2 strokes can lest about 3 hours on a full tank of gas, 4 strokes can last 24 hours +, 2 strokes require loads of matinence and are more difficult to handle, 4 strokes, as long as they are made well, are minimum matinence. i believe that 2 strokes are illegal to make ne more due to incredablly horrible emissions. and a 125 2 stroke races with 250 4 strokes, 250 2 stroke races with 450 4 stroke

  5. ok well a 2 stroke 250 is almost double as poweful as a 4 stroke 250 - but I'm SURE you know that.

For 2-strokes, it's pretty much less maintenance, but they usually are not as powerfull as the 4-strokes in their class because the 4's have more torq. also the 4-strokes are a lot more expensive, at least $1,000 more.

for 2-strokes, you have to mix the gas with premix oil and you don't for 4-strokes. also on 2-strokes the motor was designed to not idle (keep running in neutral without throttle being revved) for very long so it does not foul the plug.

    i like 2 strokes.
