I did not bleed much after giving birth it stopped about 1 week later but today i have started to bleed quite heavy. I thought it may be my period coming back but there is clear mucus mixed in with my blood.

Is this normal?

  1. You should probably have it checked out but yes, it is probably normal.

(Don't worry about the disgusting question, I'm going to give you a disgusting answer),  After some women give birth, the cervix is quite swollen and the excess uterine lining and other contents of the uterus that are expelled after birth (the lochia) is quite thick, and so it can become congealed or "stuck" in a plug.  As the cervix heals and the swelling goes down and the uterine lining breaks down, the uterine contents become dislodged and start to come away as a blood/tissue/mucus mix. This can happen several weeks after the birth.

If you do not have a fever and are not in any particular pain then there is nothing to really worry about.

However, if the discharge is seriously offensive in smell (like, other people can smell it from just being around you), you have a fever or are experiencing any pain high tail it to a doctor.

  2. Yes this is normal, I bled on and off for about 12 weeks, my midwife and health visitor said it was because I was over-exerting myself, and needed to take it easier, and then the bleeding would stop coming back.

My baby girl had reflux though and did not stop crying 24/7 (literally for like 5 weeks) until I took her to the doctors and got some medicine for her. So, it was difficult to relax, LMAO

  3. this is very normal, I bled from february right to this august which the doc done nothing about neither did the hospital so dont worry about it and a heavy bleed is very normal

  4. I bled on and off for 4 weeks after having my daughter (By section)

I think it's totally normal. You can also start bleeding if you over-do it. Like cleaning, or just not taking it easy. It's your body's way of telling you that you need to take it easy.

If you're not breast feeding, then your period will come back sooner.

I had my daughter June 11th, and got my first period on July 22, and I think it was the most heaviest period I have ever had... not to mention the cramping. I thought to myself "Okay, I just bled for 4 weeks, what more could I possibly have left in there!" They say your first period after baby is quite off, like not what you're used to before you had your LO.

I was also thinking that whoever said that cramps get better after having a baby is a liar! lol

  5. yes its normal to bleed for up to 6 weeks stopping and starting. A period can come within 4 weeks of birth but is much more likely closter to 2 months after birth unless breast feeding then it delays it further.
