I have a 1994 Jeep YJ. It has a 3" body lift. The four wheel drive shift lever is really short now. Any suggestions how I can make it longer other then welding.

Thanks,

Tommy

  1. Cut the ball off the top about three inches down the rod.  Put a piece of pipe over the rod that comes form the floor.  Put the remainder of the rod attacked to the ball into the top of the pipe.  Buy cutting the pipe to the desired length you can make the new shift rod as long as you want.

However remember that the longer the rod,  the longer the throw to complete the shift.  You may have to bend the pipe so that the ball clears the dashboard and/or seats.

  2. personally I would get ride of the body lift and install a suspension lift that will eliminate the problem. Body lifts are good for nothing other than looks. If you are not going to wheel the jeep then buy a longer lever.

  3. short of buying a longer one, nope.. either weld or buy..
