  1. My daughter hasn't gotten hers yet but I have 11 nieces and nephews and all have without issue.

I actually heard a story recently of a child who nearly died from Chicken Pox as a reminder to make sure your kids are immunized.

(I realize you aren't suggesting not to immunize but this was a point I wanted to share because a child in our family had similar scares)

Some kids, due to immune or other medical problems, can't get immunized. So not only does the immunization prevent your healthy child from getting these diseases but it helps protect other kids who are unable to get them.

  2. My boys never had any problems.  They all got theirs when they were 5, before kindergarten.  I know it sounds like a lot, but it's only 3 shots.  My boys never even had swelling or complained of tenderness after having them at this age.

  3. Suggest getting one at a time, it maybe only 3 jabs, but it is 7 vaccines

    1) tetanus

    2) diptheria

    3) polio

    4) measles

    5) mumps

    6) ruebella

    7) varicella

If your child is high risk or you are uncomfortable, just give 1 a week.  And by one, meaning not the DtaP which is 3, get them separate.  Also ask for individual dosage bottles, not multi-dose vials.  Be sure to write down the lot number in case of a side effect and be sure to report it to VAERS if necessary.  The MMR being a live vaccine has been known to cause problems especially GI as most live vaccines do.  The IPV live polio was pulled off the market in the US a few years ago for causing the virus.  And DtaP is associated with febrile seizures so if you are pro vaccine, suggest doing 1 at a time, pre-medicate with an anti-pyretic (tylenol or motrin).  For the vast majority the benefits of vaccines outweigh the risks, but the safer route is to get 1 at a time.

  4. The only problem we had with the four year shots was which flavor of ice cream to pick afterward!!
