Question:

4 year old needing a root canal?

Hi my son went to the dentist yesterday and he has a really deep cavity. The dentist suggested a root canal. Has anyone experienced this with their children or has even heard of this being done on a child?

Before you all judge me about how a 4 year old can get such a deep cavity...My son has juvenile diabetes and was diagnosed at around 2 years old...so he has very sweet saliva and this causes his cavities.

  1. Hi, there is nothing to worry. The children as young as 4 years do get root canal treatment done. It is quite common. So donot worry and get the RCT done because though it is a baby tooth but still it is very important. You have to get it saved. Your dentist will do RCT of the tooth and then put a stainless steel crown on that. For more information on children dentistry problems you can visit the following link

They even have the facility of free dental consultation by dentist.

  2. Is it not a baby tooth, why wouldn't they just pull it? That makes much more sense than going through a root canal, I have heard they can be painful.

  3. You are going to have to stay on top of this situation, and yes these are done all the time.....

Work with the dentist, and monitor your child so these problems don't develop in the permanent teeth.
