  1. Hey there,

Well, I was just in this position on the 4th of July. And, the one thing i found that both ages loved is Arts and Crafts. They love to do anything. It really builds their self esteem to spend time doing something, using their imagination and having something to show from it.

The swimming thing is tough. My nieces and nephews at age 4 could either swim or felt comfortable with their floaties. So, I was able to hold the one year old in the pool while watching the 4 year old.

If the one year old hates water and does not want to get in the pool you can let them know its more than okay to sit on the steps and make sure you don't scare the kid. Then, reward them with positive reinforcment and then kind of egg the kid on by saying something like "I wonder if you can do this, It takes a big kid to do this. etc

I helped every one of my 15 neices and nephews swim this way.

Good luck... And  the most importnat thing is for you to have fun and not stress out. As a matter of fact, make that your rule. If it stresses you out then do something else.

I wish i had family visiting... You are so lucky...

  2. They usually have baby pools, that are less than half a meter deep. You could all play in there, seeing your sisters only four.

What about doing something at home? Dress ups? Story time, maybe playing with play - dough?

One is a pretty young age, are you sure you can supervise her on your own?

Or drawing pictures? Mabey play a ball game on the grass (even a baby can do that)

Maybe where you live has a 'play centre' I dont know what you would call it but it has like a inside jungle gym and stuff...

    Good luck, enjoy your day!

  3. I have 1 1/2  & 2 1/2 year old granddaughters & a 4 year old  great-nephew-in-law who often visit at the same time.  They love the backyard pool!  I have flotation devices for the smaller ones.  They love being pulled around in their swim rings, while the older boy splashes in the pool.  They should enjoy a kiddie pool.

A park is always a great diversion for the kids.

A McDonald's with a play yard is a great place to go for lunch.  The kids will enjoy crawling through the tunnels.

At home, they should like to color, play with clay or play doh, or glue stuff onto paper.  Just be sure the 1 year old doesn't eat stuff!

When they leave, you will be exhausted!  But it will be a happy day!

  4. I have an almost 4 year old and a 15 month old (both girls) they love playing outside if its not raining, love rolling/throwing a ball around or love playing with cars (especially ones that move by themselves) and also love dancing to some nursery rhymes and kids songs. Also you could maybe do some hand paintings with them. Maybe sit the younger one in her highchair and put a little bit of paint on her highchair tray and she can play with it by rubbing it on the tray (make sure its non-toxic though) it will be messy so make sure they have old clothes on.

Also you can get some old pots and pans or plastic containers and they can use those as drums or something.

  5. They can both color in coloring books, play blocks, have story time, play in the yard, go for a walk, play with toys, blow bubbles, sing songs.. the list could go on and on.

I very highly recommend against going in the pool. Both of them would require your constant undivided attention. It really would not be safe at all.

Oh- I thought of something else my kids used to love! Get out the pots and pans and plastic bowls- stuff like that. The one year old will love banging on them, making noise, and just playing with them, and the four year old will love to "play cooking".  Sounds like the pool idea is a great one- just don't forget the sunblock!!
