I am single mother who works full time and feeling very overwhelmed. I need discipline ideas. I just got a IF-Then chart but need punishment ideas that work. It is hard to put one in time out and KEEP THEM THERE when you are trying to cook dinner or play with the other boys (which is unfair to them). I can take away certain toys but I don't think that is enough. I feel like I am losing control and need to gain control now before i lose my mind!!!! The nanny says they are great for her and are completely different children. I walk in the door and they turn into different children. Sometimes they are great but other times OMG I could pull my hair out.

  1. Physiological punishment is the best type of punishment to use because it will not hurt them physically but only make their minds grow stronger and more obedient which will help them

  2. I feel for you!! The best way and I know it is hard for you, but the best punishment is time out in a corner, maybe get 3 chairs and label them time out and put one in each corner and when they are being bad, tell them to pick a chair to sit in for 4 minutes and have them their own timer so if they need to have a minute added or taken off they can w/out interfering with the other 2, I have 4 kids 9 years to 8 months old, and the only thing effective for mine is the time outs in the corner, they know if they misbehave in the corner they get minutes added on and they don't like that, they usually take their time out and get it over with, it was really hard at first, I had to pretty much stand in the corner with them, but once they knew that I was serious they listened, also there should be a web site, but if not email me and I will send it to you, but it is called 123 magic, i just recently started that with my kids and it is amazing, it works for sure, it's pretty much the same as time outs only you warn them once, twice, 3-take 5 minutes in the corner, I recently just started using this and I love it, hope this helped some what!

  3. I'd call Supernanny! You sound like a perfect candidate!

I don't have good advice for you.  My twins are only 13 months old now.

    Good luck!

  4. my aunt only type of punishment was to spank everytime i got punished i was over her knee skirt up panties down and spanked till my little butt turned red

  5. WHy is it hard to keep one in time out? Have time out corners. He has to stand or sit with his nose in the corner for 4 minutes.  The corner can be in whatever room you are in so you can keep an eye on him, but he is still excluded from the goings-on in the room. The time doesn't start until he is quite and accepting of his punishment. If there are fits or tantrums, then he has to lay in his bed until he can act right and accept his time out.

It just takes consistency. Once they know that you mean business and won't give up on the punishment, they'll fall in line.  After the time -out, be sure to ask  him to tell you why he was in time out. Then this gives you the opportunity to reinforce the rule. " that's right Timmy, You Hit your brother and had to go to time out. Don't do it again. Hitting isn't nice. mommy loves you" Give him a hug and send him to play.

  6. my dad actually came up with something pretty smart when my sis was little. she was quite a brat really  haha.

he didn't like to spank or yell or anything so one of the first times she did something bad he made her sit in the corner like a lot of parents do, but he made her sit on her knees on the tile, kinda like kneeling but still sitting all the way up.

it didn't really hurt her knees or anything but instead of sitting there screaming and crying or yelling for being in time out she was complaining and focusing more on how much she didn't like it. she only got that once and learned her lesson.

    :)
