Only problem is my sister is a bit Novice and would like to do trails with out futer horse and id like to do jumping.

He has bever been on trails and has jumped once and it was a real small 1. We could train him but hes 4 and we dont want 2 gte hurt

whats ur verdict?

  1. go back and have another go and decied from there

    GOOD LUCK!!!!

  2. I trained my first off track Thoroughbred at the of 10 so I know they are sometimes hard to work with, especially for a novice. Thoroughbreds are usually high-spirited and he may be calm working where he is now but after switching places he may act a little differently. Also he is very young and if you think he is a good height now, he's probably got a bit of growing left to do. And if you want to do jumping I would recommend a little bit older horse who is finished growing. Perhaps taking him on a week or so trial if you really like him to see how he would act at a different place? It took me over a year to find the right horse so take your time and don't rush things.

Sorry this was so long. Haha. Well I hope this helps :]

  3. No.  Your sister is a novice, and wants to ride trails.  A horse off the track is not a good choice...I've seen some crazy scary things happen when some of these horses are ridden on trails...some nice ones too...but not ridden by a novice.

  4. In my opinion 4 is to young. If he is as good as you say then go for it. But horses that young arnt very good! Because they are still in the, how do you say this? He is still a kid and they tend to play up alot! anyway he seems cute and if you love him that much then get him!

  5. I've found that ex racers make phenominal jumpers.

unless you don't train them right.

in which case, their horrible. and they rush fences.

assuming he isn't spooky, he'd make a fine trail horse

and if you can teach him not to rush (ie, doing a lot of trot poles infront of the fence, stopping him before jumping, and after, so he learns not to speed off) then he'll make a great jumper.

  6. id say see him again. i do a lot of jumping and trails and know a lot of horses off the track who do that stuff. make sure you get the right training and lessons!! dont be afraid (or to cheap!!) to take lessons. they really do help. try him again, wats the worse that could happen? you find out that he's not right? or that you look back and wonder?
