  1. I know what you mean!  :)

I usually have a short "quiet resting time" in the afternoon.  It's just 20 minutes, but I time it for about 3:30 p.m.  so if my son really needs the sleep, he will just fall asleep.  If he does, I let him sleep a maximum of 30 minutes, and truly, that power nap is all it takes to get him chipper and moving again.

If he's in a growth spurt, he may need sleep more, but usually, I let him just lay down on the couch for a rest.  My catch is that it must be a silent rest.  If I hear talking, the 20 minute timer starts again.  (It's actually been a great way to teach him to tell time!)  :)

Good luck with your twins!  You should take a rest, too!  :)

  2. Do not give up everyone could use a nap no matter how old especially if they're only 4! Sure proof way to work. I have twin 4....almost five year olds. They hate naps but I refuse to give them up : ) So what i do is I have them lay on either side of my on my bed. I read, knit whatever but whatever I do I don't talk to them if they sit up just lay them back down not talking this is important because they are looking for that stimalation from you to tell them to lay down go to sleep. It usually takes 20 mins for mine to get so bored they fall right asleep. Then I have an hour to myself : ) Good luck hope this helps : )

  3. Not sure what to tell you, my boys started refusing naps when they turned 3 which the pediatrician said is pretty common.  I was told that as long as they are getting enough sleep at night they may not need a nap.  If my boys do fall asleep during the day they can't seem to fall asleep at night.

  4. Most 4 year olds don't really need a nap if they get enough sleep at night.  They need to begin adjusting to being awake all day once they start school.  If they get whiny or wound-up mid-afternoon, when they used to nap try implementing a quiet time, with books, a drink and some snuggle time.  Sometimes a rest is just as effective as a nap, and doesn't lead into a later bedtime.

  5. Are they napping in the same room?  Maybe they each need some quiet alone time.  You can also try making sure their sleeping area is nice and cool and that everything in the sleeping room is fully explored and no longer a curiously to play with during naptime.  I am not sure you can get them to take naps.  If they won't nap, maybe you could send them to bed earlier.

  6. try making them a nice warm milk  rock em a lot not hard though sing a lullaby and just get away from any noise they'll probably fall asleep if not eh. well try your hardest.

Good luck your going to need it.

  7. my son (Age 2.5) just recently started to not nap every day. it depends on how tired he is. however, he has to have quiet time after lunch until 2 or 3 depending on the day. it took about a week to get used to this. Quiet time consists of a movie, reading books, coloring, or just laying on the couch in the living room. Sometimes quiet time last a few hours and sometimes into it he wants to nap. This just winds him down and lets him see that the rest of the house (me) isnt having fun during nap time.

I do suggest separate rooms. Taking a walk before lunch. Getting into a routine that is never (or rarely) broken. Making sure that if one wakes up he/she has to have quiet time until the other one wakes up. Or if they wake up at 2:00 quiet time is still until 3:00 this way they wont feel like they have to beat each other to wake up and they can get real rest that they need.

    I wish you luck.

  8. if there are a few things that we know you can't make children eat, talk or sleep :-) don't be afraid to be firm when you it is best for them meaning it is ok to put your foot down a bit on quiet time because you know that later life will be alot better, easier for them if they are not soooo tired.

  9. NyQuill for dinner! Yay!

How 'bout an old, boring movie though? Wrap 'em up in blankets on the couch and pop in a boring old movie.
