My baby sun conure stays in a 3'x2' plastic container with a heating blanket on the bottom. Well today she used her beak to pull her feet to the top edge so she could escape. Lately she has been flapping her wings alot like she is wanting to fly. She can perch on my finger but still has some learning to do as she still seems a little clumsy and will slip off from time to time. The one questions I have is when do I need to move her to a cage? I have looked everywhere and couldn't find an answer so I figured I would ask. Thanks

  1. She may be ready for a small cage with a perch placed close to the bottom. Put her food and water in the dishes the cage comes with- and then put food and water in small bowls on the bottom.

I use small cages for my parrotlets- and use heavy oblong dishes that are for hamsters so they can't upset them.

She will be able to learn to perch better- babies are awkward for a little while. And yes they flap their wings, they are getting used to having them- and getting used to balancing themselves.

Once she gets the hang of the small cage you can transfer her to a larger cage and keep the small one for her travel cage. I bought a few small white cages at pet co for $40 each- they are great for weaning babies!
