Me and my friends are doing the 40 hour famine for the second year in a row this year. For those of you who don't know what the 40 hour famine is, we are not going to eat for 40 hours. People sponsor you and as well as raising money for children in Africa, India or other less fortunate countries, (this year it will be for child laborers in India). You get to experience what everyday life feels like for them. It's something World Vision does.

We are doing it in a group of seven and we will probably all eat diner together before we start. What are some good foods that will keep us full for as long as possible. It's hard not to be hungry when you know you can't eat but nay suggestions would be appreciated.

Oh and I don't eat red meat (I basically just eat free range chicken, fish and sometimes bacon). And one of us is a vegetarian - but still eats fish =]

Thank you!!

  1. carbohydrates and meat are supposed to be good filler-upers

  2. eat granola, eggs, meat, fish, pasta, carbs, and just eat A LOT. I think its really great for you guys to do this. Good Luck and thats a great thing to do :)

  3. Get onto google and look up low GI foods. Low GI foods keep you fuller for longer.

Good work on the 40 hour famine! I've always wanted to do it but I'm a diabetic so it's out of the question, lol.

  4. I would eat lots of protein-nuts, meats, eggs, etc.  Try to find a recipe for chicken with almonds or something like that.  Good luck

  5. Meat and potatoes sticks to your ribs.=)

  6. first off, i think this is a great thing that you're doing...i'm a freshman in college, and i've been doing the 40HF for the last 5 years.  And while there are no "correct" things to eat...i have two things to tell you:

    1. there are foods that you love to eat, undeniably. go for them. but one thing you'll want to watch out for is the diuretic content. A diuretic is any substance that absorbs water...trust me, there's nothing worse then pigging out on cupcakes, candy, etc; starting your famine, and being extremely thirsty (or even...constipated.). a 40 hour stomach ache isn't good for the world...or you. =]

    2. CARBS!!! athletes prepare for major events that require mass amounts of caloric energy by carboloading. Believe it or not, being hungry actually has an energy cost for your body. Other than fat, carbohydrates (and potassium...bananas, etc.) feed your body with the greatest amount of energy. Unless your 40 hour famine is also part of a crash diet (i've seen that...a girl did a 40HRF just before a pageant), i'd suggest on stocking up on starches, breads, rice...anything "grainy" or derived from grains. keep in mind that you'll need liquids to counteract the absorption effect.

so there you have it, love. the 40 hour famine is great for SO many reasons, and i'm glad you've chosen to participate. =]

  7. well remember you dont want to stuff your faces and make yourself really full before , because it makes you extra hungry during the famine. start to cut down on your food intake a few days before the famine and you should cope. You can eat what ever you want for the last dinner , but as i said dont stuff your face. during the 40 hours your allowed barley sugar lollies and water. ( i think )

    good luck

  8. beef, chicken, bread, pasta is very forfulling and good luck with your 40 hours famine!

  9. well if i were you, id stuff myself with bread and pasta, or go to the chinese buffet lol carbs carbs carbs
