My eldest step daughter wants to participate in the 40 hour famin, which we will support her for of course, BUT my question is this, the permission slip she came home with states the following -
During this time (of the sleepover at school) the students will be asked not to eat and solid food but will be able to drink fruit juice, soft drink and water as well as eating sugary lollies.
That's not right is it? Isn't the 40 hour famine meant to be NO food and no drinks except water and not just any sugary lollies - it used to be barley sugar only?
and since when is soft drink allowed? Isn't the whole point to raise funds to help this starving kids in the third world countries who starve everyday, like when do they get to have softdrink? or fruit juice?
It seems to me to make a mockery of the whole point, I did the 40 hour famine several times as a child and we were only allowed water and barley sugar? so has it changed these days or is the school making a mockery of the whole point
