  1. I'm not gonna lie, I like Samsung.  But based on the 2 tvs you are looking at, I would have to say the 46" Sony.  First off it is 1080P.   The Samsung's response time was a little sluggish coupled with the contrast ratio = you might see some problems with fast-paced  motion or really dark images.  If you have someplace you can compare them up close, I would go by what you see.  You will be the one watching it after all!

  2. I need more information to give you the best solution:

1: What are you going to be doing? Watching TV, movies,...

2: Is the room very bright with a lot of windows? can you cover them and make the room dark?

3: Do you care about maintance cost?

4: Are you going to gave an HD-DVD player or Blue-Ray?

5: What kind of room is it going to be in?

If you are not going to have an HD-DVD then I would recommend the LCD. Next time you go buy a TV you can go ahead an upgrade this TV with a bigger Plasma or LCD and move this LCD to your Bedroom. You also dont have to worry about changing the bulbs (they can be $200-$500). LCD will also look good from any viewing distance or angle.

If you do have a 1080P player then go with the sony to take advatange of that. it wont look as good from certain spots but the money seat would look GREAT! Its also bigger which is always better (unless you are sitting really close). Unfortunally if the room is very light it wont look as good as the LCD and you also wont be able to move it into another room as easily as an LCD.

So if I were you I would get the LCD thinking that in the next 1-3 years I will be upgrading to a bigger and better TV and I can move this bad boy to my bedroom.

  3. you can't go wrong with SONY.  Some of the best hi-def tvs in the world.

  4. If you intend in the future go to HD. Neither one, try another model of samsung 1080p. Sony is very good but I don't like rear projection, they are very big and the lamps have life time and they are very expensive. The rear projection are cheaper but because of the lamp lifetime in a long run it will be more expensive than a LCD.
