40 or 60 Watt Bulb?

Question

I was just wonding what type of bulbs you would use in a ceiling fan that takes 3 bulbs. My grocery store has a 4 pack of generic white 60 watt bulbs for 80¢ and they have a 4 pack of GE Reveal 40 watt bulbs for $1.50 on sale. The reveals say they are better for reading, and offer white light instead of the yellow.

I tried the Reveal bulbs and didn't like them.  Does the term "eye fatigue" make sense?  the light was too intense.  I'd go with the 40 watt clear bulbs for a ceiling fan.

Think outside of the box - you want lower operating cost, in our pay-by-the-hour electricity system. Go with compact fluorescent bulbs - you will see the equivalent lumen/wattage on the package. They take a little longer to 'warm up' but the savings are great and you get the same brightness in the end.

It depends on the size of your room, but I would think the 40 watt ones would be sufficient. Have you considered buying energy saving bulbs?

Compact fluorescents are far more eco-friendly and less costly in the long run. Just check that you're getting the right ones for your unit.

A matter of personal preference. Choose the one that creates the light you need. I recently paid a visit to my daughter in another state. She uses low watt bulbs not liking bright light. I had a hard time seeing in that low light.

I use 40W clear bulbs in my fans.  They work fine.  I don't think you are going to do a lot of reading with 40 or 60 watt ceiling fan bulbs but you should experiment with the available bulbs to see which you like the best.  Compare the lumen's in each wattage category (more is usually better).  Personally, I don't care for the the "Reveal" bulb and would not use it in any lighting application.  Call me old fashioned but the light they emit looks strange.  So that leaves frosted and clear.  I've used both and prefer the clear.
