40 yard dash help?

Im 12 years old, 90lbs and 5 feet tall. i was wandering what an average time is for DB. i also need tips on how to run faster.

  1. Starting running sprits on the football filed back and forth and run bleachers. To run the 40 yard dash faster, practice running it every day and u will beat ur time.

I went to the track coach to get some help with my 40 speed.  He gave me some tips for getting a better start, suggested I practise the starts, do sprints, and he gave me an exercise.  The exercise was to start running on the spot and raise my knees as high as possible, gradually moved forward until it became a full run, and then change it to leaps of the greatest distance I was capable of.  Did it 5-6 times daily over a 50 yard distance.

    I did the exercise, practised the starts and ran sprints all summer and did take .20 off my 40 time.  I was still slow, but at least got to the point where I had a better time than any of the big offensive linemen.  Could have been the exercise and practise?

    Don't worry yet about what the ideal 40 yard time should be.  Get your time and start trying to trim it down.  Become the best you can be.

    I wasn't much bigger than you are at 12.  I believe my big growth spurt was at 13.

  3. A 12 year old running a 4.7?  Yeah, I don't think so.  That being said, you better hope you have a big growth spurt before high school if you intend on playing football, kid...

  6. Wind sprints. Run for 90 or as long as you can seconds or less as fast as you can. take some time to catch your breath and repeat 4 times atleast 4 times a week. next week increase the number of sprints  to 6. then to 8 and when you feel your doing a good number of sprints stay at that number. and you will see results for sure.

  7. An average time for a DB would be like a 4.28 in the NFL , but for your age , I would say it would be like a 4.7 or 4.6 somewhere around , there , here's a tip , run  on the balls of your feet , which means on the top  of your feet , by doing so , your heels should never touch the ground .
