  1. You're asking what's faster: electronic accuracy or human error.

Hand timed can be slower than electronic: that's the benefit of human error and bias. Which is why most coaches will have two timers.

Electronic is movement based and very accurate.

If you want a significant time change, start running steps after workout.

    Break 5 flat

  2. What gives you a faster time or a more accurate time?

Electronic is more accurate because it starts on your movement.

Hand timed can be slower or faster depending on the reaction time of the person starting and stopping.

Another assistant and I were timimg our players last week. We ran them 2 at a time. There were 2 kids running together who started and finished at the EXACT same time. One was timed at 4.81 and one was 4.75.

A recomendation is to have 2 seperate coaches timing 2 seperate lines and run once in each line. That will give you a good idea. If one coach times you at 5.03 the other might time you at 4.96 or so.

  3. Depends if he tells you to start or if you start and then he starts.  if he teels you to start it will be slower because of reaction time.  I you start and then he starts it may be a little faster because of his reaction time.

  4. By all accounts, a hand timer is typically slower, however, its not that much slower. Say you run a 4.56 hand timed. Well, if you think you're faster than that, and you get electronically timed, you'll come out to maybe a 4.52.

And unless you're running for Gold medals, hundredths of a second are not going to hamper you significantly.

  5. It could swing either way depending on the hand, but electronic is certainly more accurate than hand time, especially with the 40 yard dash.
