4000 school children to receive free London Olympics 2012 tickets
Free tickets for the London 2012 Olympic Games have been allotted to a total of 4000 school children of the Bromley so that they get the opportunity to experience the international sporting event in the capital of England.
The allocation of the free tickets is part of the programme started by the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and the mayor of London Boris Johnson. The two parties had taken it upon themselves to include a total of 92 schools in an initiative
to provide free tickets to school children. This initiative is known as the London 2012 Get Set education programme. The programme reaches out to the public through a website that aims to inculcate the spirit of the Olympic Games in the youth of the United
Kingdom. The website seeks to generate enthusiasm in the children with the help of statistics, videos as well as news articles.
Through the programme, the schools will be given the tickets which will then allocate them further to their students. The form of allocations will be decided by the schools holding the tickets but it will generally take the form of competitions that will
decide which students will earn the chance of watching the Olympic Games.
One of the schools that have been allotted the tickets is the Hayes School in West Common Road which have a total of 202 tickets. The school has the privilege of being an advocate for the Olympic Games and has been provided the opportunity to create short
films focussed around the Olympics while working in collaboration with the director of the Slumdog Millionaire, Danny Boyle.
Mr Johnson expressed himself on the matter in the following manner, “These are London’s Games so it’s only right the next generation is right at the heart of the action. Watching some of world’s greatest athletes reach for gold, these young Londoners will
form a huge part of what could be the most enduring legacy of these Games; a generation inspired and motivated to achieve their best in the classroom and out on the playing field.”
The Olympic Games are scheduled to start from July 27.
