I joined crosscountry team to increase my stamina and right now we're pre-conditioning and yesterday we ran 5 miles (took about an hour). But afterwards we had to do two 400m sprint relays. I felt so embarrased iono if i was tired from the 5miles but both times around the 3/4 mark i was so out of breath that i started walking! Any tips or suggestions to help??? Thankx so much! I'm fast when i do 100m or 200m but after that i die and if i'm doing distance (i.e. 5 miles) i jog it pretty slowly! Thankx everyone for ur help!! I wanna get better just any workouts or tips are appreciated! :D

  1. 400ms suck! i was only a sprinter and on conditioning days we had to do 400 repeats and i die too. just pick somebody tht you think is just a little better than you and focus keeping up with them. i run the 100 and 200 and i wouldn never run more than that. cross country runners are too committed with eating and conditioning. haha im too lazy.

    good luck

  2. The 400 is a lot farther than just twice the 200 distance.

You should be running fast, but you must relax.

You can not stress while running.

    It will make  you tired.

I imagine you are not in real good condition right now, and after the 5 miles regardless of how slow you ran,  you are just worn out.

As your stress endurance improves you will be able to carry your speed for the entire 400 so don't worry about it right now.

  3. i do agree after doing 5 miles a 400m can be pretty tough 100m and 200m not so bad because thats more of a short sprint a 400m is one of the most hardest events in sprinting I suggest that you start the first 100 out sprinting take the next 100m striding than sprint the last 200 m sprinting also try doing some leg exercises to help build sprinting muscles up hope this helps good luck
