Question:

400m dash Emergency!?

Tommorrow i will be running the 400m dash in class 4a sectionals. In a way i feel okay because just last week i placed 33 out of 44 in a mostly 6a meet, and that was the first time i've ever run it (i got 1:15). On the other hand i know that my time is nowhere near where it needs to be in order to qualify for state and i really want to prove myself to the guys on my team who think that they're the only ones on the team with gold medal potential as well as our school who barely knows that we even have a track team (considering our track is a painted circle in the parking lot which people end up parking on anyways!). With that being said does anyone have any tips or tricks on pacing or momentum or anything that can help me?

  1. breath in through our nose and out from your mouth relax yur baody get a fast start then slow it down and when your about 120 meters from the finish line start sprinting and trust me the adrenaline on the sprint part will help if you sprint

  2. run on your tippy toes, it saves energy

move your arms faster, your arms and legs work together, so if your arms go faster your legs will too

breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth

dont keep your hands balled up in a fist

this all might be harder because it becomes easier once you're used to it.

    GOOD LUCK!

  3. don't run on tippy toes like the guy said. but the other guy was right about sprinting at the end although i reccommend you start your sprint about halfway through the final turn. as for before that try to run at about 80-85% personally i don't breath through my nose like i'm supposed to but i still get 1:03 so i'm not sure it matters so much.

  4. Well your story is kind of different from mine but i will try my best. My school has one of the best track facilities and we have one of the best track teams. My school really loves it's sports. One thing I can tell your is to run on your toes and shorten your stride for shorter distances. Also you should practice your breathing and have some self confidence. When you run do high knees and it will also help you go faster.

Hope I was of some assistance N from Marietta
